About us

We are a family business that was established in Penrith over 25 years ago. We have grown to employ over 50 locally-trained people but we still try to keep the personal service, value-for-money pricing and quality.

The firm is controlled by Steve Atkinson who has seen it grow since 1982 from just himself as a sole trader to its current turnover of around £10 million. Steve leads the business with Barry Turner and a management team that includes John Bousfield, Neil McKaskie, Tony Ripley, Tracy Little, Adrian Banks and Steve Pickering each one bringing their own practical experience and expertise to the company.

Our people

Our reputation is based on our people and we invest a great deal in training our staff and maintaining the professional standards that you expect from a quality business.

We review and plan our training programme every year and hold the “Investor in People” status as a measure of our commitment to training and development. We also work hard to keep the feel of a smaller firm where everyone is part of the family. We recruit trainees locally each year and, in conjunction with the Construction Skills, we currently have several modern apprentices working for us while also training at local colleges for their professional craft qualifications.

The company also supports local community groups and schools where our staff and their families are involved. Recent sponsorships have included
Penrith RUFC,Wetheriggs United FC and Penrith Amateur Boxing Club as well as donations towards the local Lions and Rotary Charity Golf Days, Penrith Savoyards, Penrith Players Theatre Group and local primary schools.
