Projects – commercial

Atkinson Building Contractors has worked for various commercial concerns in the region and projects have included hotel refurbishments, office developments and retailers.

PENRITH CO-OPERATIVE STORE – situated in the town centre, the department store was £3m refurbishment project over a 18 month period. Throughout this time the store remained trading, relying on close relations between client, architect and builder. The initial stage was awarded through negotiation on a traditional basis The later stages were target cost sums, as works progressed early contractor design input was essential to meet timescales and budgets. The success of the project was the use of a local supply chain, which all parties bought into the project.

DERWENT FILLING STATION – construction of a new filling station, whilst the existing remained trading was always going to be a challenge. Construction of the steel framed structure, with local slate roof and stone walls, integrate the building into the surroundings. The retail space of the new building was increased twenty fold. Site remediation following a previous fuel leak added to the difficulty of turning the project round in a twenty week period. An example of our company's successful progression into the commercial sector.

PENRITH FOOTBALL CLUB – as the initial stage of the transformation of Penrith town centre, the relocation of the town’s football club into a FA Category D stadium. The projects includes all aspects of a new stadia, new pitch, covered terraced seating area, open and covered spectator viewing, changing facilities and function areas. The £1.9m project also involved extending the existing infrastructure to the site and new car parking facilities.

KESWICK FOOTBALL CLUB – built for use of the town’s junior and senior football teams, the scheme provided a new clubhouse, function and changing facilities, alongside the construction of a new pitch. Built within the national park the use of traditional materials was paramount. Low maintenance and running costs were of high importance and therefore the installation of a free water system and boreholes down to 15m with a ground source heat pump provided free heat to the building for the years to come. The use a number of local sub-contractors ensured the project maintained its community feel.

ACORN GUESTHOUSE – Refurbishment and extension to the existing building. Providing a new function room and bedroom accommodation. Contract secured through negoiation with our client
