Penrith Rugby Club's Biomass Boiler was officially opened by April Stobart of Stobart Biomass. The installation and commissioning of the boiler, using renewable wood pellets, is the culmination of a four year project evaluating a number of renewable initiatives. The project was managed start to finish by the club's accountant, Chris Lilley who commented: " This is a fantastic milestone in the Club's long history, by not only reducing our carbon footprint but also in re-investing the cost savings back into community rugby".
The whole project, which provides for all the heating requirements for both rugby and squash clubhouses, was supplied, installed and commissioned by Atkinson Renewable Energy, part of Atkinson Building Contractors Ltd. Finance was secured through the RFU and Stobart Biomass offered specialist advice on the advantages of biomass heating. The whole project has been closely supported by the club's main sponsor: AW Jenkinson Forest Products.
