Apprenticeship schemes have been fundamental to the success of Atkinson Building Contractors’ growth and achievements in recent years. In 1992, we employed our first apprentice and have continued to support in excess of 70 apprentices since then, we are currently celebrating supporting a record number on our books. Over the years they we have forged flourishing relationships with local schools and colleges and are a key contact when students are seeking work experience and school leavers are looking for support to complete an apprenticeship. With plans in progress for a fresh intake of apprenticeships in September 2016, we’re showing the way forward with regards to offering apprenticeship schemes that range from traditional bricklaying and plumbing schemes to technical construction and surveying technology courses to local school leavers in addition to adults looking to pave a career in the construction industry.
Apprenticeships also are a structured way for people to learn a trade or specialist skills and gain valuable on-the-job experience whilst earning a wage. We’ve really benefitted from our commitment to apprenticeship schemes over the years and we believe that one of the main factors is the growth of a loyal and dedicated workforce, proved by the company having a low staff turnover rate. A number of apprentices have progressed and are now employed in management positions throughout the company, contributing greatly to our success.
