Nichol End Marine is situated at Portinscale on the edge of Derwentwater, following flood damage from Storm Desmond in December 2015, we were required to complete a full strip out and reinstatement.
The first stage of this was to make safe electrical circuits, remove block walls, lift the concrete floor and remove quarry tile from shower cubicles and the kitchen. We then removed the existing boiler, radiators and the sanitary ware from the café toilets and outside toilet. We removed ground floor windows, hacked off wall tiling and paneling from toilet, shower and kitchen areas. During this time, we ran dehumidifiers until an acceptable level of moisture content was achieved in all parts of the project.
As part of the reinstatement, we built block walls to form new layouts with a finished render wall. We also fitted vinyl flooring throughout the ground floor area.
Following this, our electrical division completed an electrical re-wire, fitting a new consumer unit and telecommunication installations, testing and certifying all elements. We fit thermostatic valves, radiators, hot and cold water services, showers and WCs including a Worcester utility boiler which we commissioned.
Finally, we completed a full clean and decoration to have the project complete for an open day at the end of July, which was hugely successful. Nichol End Marine is now open to the public once again as a fully functioning café, also offering boat hire and tuition on Derwentwater. Following our work, they can now welcome back the youth clubs, scouts, church outings, stag parties and large family groups, who visited Nichol End year after year.
