PLANNING APPROVAL, AMBLESIDE

Atkinson Building Contractors Ltd is delighted to announce the successful approval of our planning application for 40 residential units with a mixture of tenures on the field located between Loughrigg Park and Borrans Road, Ambleside, Cumbria.  Working in partnership with Home Group and Holt Property this milestone reflects our commitment to open dialogue, responsible development, and our dedication to creating a project that will have long term benefits for the Ambleside community.

After an extensive and thorough review process, the planning application was delegated by the Development Control Committee to Head of Development Management to approve subject to Section 106 Agreement and conditions on 01/11/2023, demonstrating our ability to address concerns and create a project that aligns with the unique needs and character of Ambleside.

The path to approval was not without its challenges, as we encountered numerous objections from the statutory consultees during the application process. We acknowledge and appreciate the concerns raised and worked diligently to address each one, resulting in a project that has the support of both the planning case officer and the development control committee who voted 6 – 1 in favour of the proposal.

Atkinson Building Contractors would like to extend our appreciation to the members of The Lake District National Park Development Control Committee Planning for their careful consideration of our application. We also want to thank the local community for engaging in this constructive dialogue, as well as Align Property Partners (architect), Curtins (Consulting Engineer) and all stakeholders and partners who supported us throughout this process.

The project represents a significant investment in the future of Ambleside, and our commitment is to ensure its positive impact on the community while enhancing community viability. We look forward to addressing the concerns of those who objected and to involving the local community in the ongoing development process.

Positioned within Grasmere, Rydal & Ambleside valley in the Lake District National Park, the development has been thoughtfully designed to harmonize with the breathtaking natural landscape that envelops the site. The sensitive use of materials, which are sympathetic to the surroundings and existing buildings, ensures a seamless integration of the development into the UNESCO world heritage site. Moreover, a thoughtfully crafted landscaping scheme will further enhance the project's coexistence with the natural environment. This development encompasses 22 affordable rental properties for local residents, 16 open market houses for those with local connections, and 2 principal or exclusive homes.
