Construction has officially commenced on a new affordable housing development at Burgh Road in Carlisle, with a sod-cutting ceremony marking the start of works on site.
We are proud to be delivering the scheme in partnership with our long-standing client Home Group, which will bring forward 114 much-needed affordable homes for the area.
The development will include 68 homes for social rent and 46 homes available through shared ownership, helping local people and families access high-quality homes within their community. Designed to respond directly to local housing demand, the scheme will ensure the homes are available specifically for local residents, supporting people to remain in the area where they live and work.
As well as addressing local housing needs, the development represents a meaningful investment in the community and forms part of wider efforts to strengthen neighbourhood sustainability, ensuring housing growth reflects the needs of existing residents.
To celebrate the start of works, we were pleased to welcome representatives from Home Group, alongside Ward Councillor Abdul Harid and Carlisle MP Julie Minns.
Councillor Abdul Harid welcomed the progress on the site, commenting:
“This is a very welcome development for our ward and a significant investment in the future of our community. Residents have consistently raised the need for quality housing that allows people to stay within the area, and this scheme helps respond directly to that demand.
“This site has long been recognised as having potential, and it is encouraging to now see tangible progress being made. The construction phase will also bring opportunities for local employment and support the wider economy, which is especially important in the current climate.”
With work now underway, the Burgh Road development marks an important step forward in providing homes that allow local people to remain and thrive within their community.
